The Urgent Need for Global Respiratory Advocacy
Half a billion

DEATHS ANNUALLY
Asthma
affects more than 360 million people and causes more than 400,000 deaths annually.Â
Chronic respiratory diseases (CRDs) represent a massive global health challenge, affecting hundreds of millions and placing an immense strain on health systems and economies alike.
Political leadership can change this.
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Diseases (COPD)
the most significant contributor to CRD mortality, affects more than 200 million people and causes more than 3 million deaths each year.
OUR MODEL
GLOBALLY
We bring parliamentarians together across countries to advance coordinated messages and calls for action that place chronic respiratory diseases and respiratory health higher on the global health agenda.
REGIONALLY
We connect parliamentarians across regions to exchange knowledge, learn from one another and take joint action on shared respiratory health priorities, including prevention, access to quality care, sustainable financing and accountability.
NATIONALLY
At the national level, we identify and support parliamentary champions and help establish and strengthen national caucuses. Together, they advance stronger policies, legislation and investment in respiratory health. We connect these champions and caucuses with governments, civil society, academia, health professionals and other local partners to turn political commitments into measurable action.
LET’S MAKE RESPIRATORY
HEALTH A #POLITICAL
PRIORITY.
Nearly 570 million people worldwide live with chronic respiratory diseases. Chronic obtructive pulmonary disease (COPD) alone is the third leading cause of death globally, claiming approximately 3.4 million lives each year.

Many chronic respiratory diseases can be prevented or effectively managed, yet they remain significantly overlooked and underfunded within national and global health agendas.

Millions of people still miss out on timely diagnosis, essential medicines, oxygen therapy, pulmonary rehabilitation and quality respiratory care. This leads to preventable disability, repeated hospitalisation and premature death.
